32 million made available
On June 1, Minister Kuipers of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) announced the launch of a national post-COVID expertise network and a multi-year post-COVID research program. C-support has been in discussions about this with VWS and various other parties for quite some time. We are pleased that this decision has been made and that we can expect an expertise network and a multi-year research program in the foreseeable future.
The expertise network and the research programme fall under the 'Research and knowledge sharing post-COVID' programme, for which an additional €32 million will be made available for the period 2023 to 2026. The programme must ensure that knowledge and expertise regarding post-COVID is expanded and shared.
ZonMw will further develop the national post-COVID expertise network in the coming months. This network enables care, particularly for patients with complex medical conditions, within the framework of research. The expertise network is the link between relevant parties, research results and acquired expertise. The aim of the network is to ensure that effective treatments reach patients and healthcare professionals as quickly as possible.
The fact that VWS is also intensively investing in research by setting up a multi-year research programme via ZonMW also makes us positive. With such a multi-year research programme, we can learn more about persistent complaints after infection with COVID-19. C-support is of course happy to think along about the knowledge agenda that should underlie this.
