Our medical advisor Sara Biere-Rafi, Merel Hellemons (pulmonologist) and Ernst Jurgens (occupational physician) have placed critical notes on a recently published interview in the Belgian journal for occupational and insurance medicine by insurance physician Colin Cordemans. He believes that Long COVID is not a real condition because of what he says: “The absence of demonstrable organ damage”. He expects that patients will recover with guidance and treatment from a biopsychosocial approach. However, nothing could be further from the truth!
By not being sufficiently informed about the clinical picture and the current state of science, he seriously discredits patients in his position as a forensic expert. In addition, by coming out with this incorrect interpretation of Long COVID complaints, these harmful ideas are further spread. This seriously discredits the many patients with Long COVID, but also other post-infectious diseases such as ME/CFS, and their often disabling and hopeless suffering.
