In week 22, C-support submitted a discussion paper at the request of VWS to share its thoughts on the formation of specialized clinics for Long (long-term) COVID / post-Covid patients. In the discussion paper provided by C-support, we indicate that we would like to see patients with long-term complaints after a corona infection being treated in a newly established clinic in the future.
The mutual differences in the degree, severity and duration of the complaints of Post-COVID patients are becoming increasingly apparent. In order to be able to offer appropriate care to post-COVID patients, we should be able to distinguish between them better, for example by means of patient profiles. So that we can offer each 'category' of patients the (after)care and care pathways that suit their complaints, situation and problems, within an infrastructure that offers what is needed.
The advice we have issued to VWS concerns an integrated approach to aftercare for people with a complex post-infectious syndrome. C-support believes that the current supply is insufficient for the group with the most complex problems due to fragmented or insufficient knowledge. Patients are often sent back and forth between their GP and various specialisms such as lung specialists, cardiologists, neurologists, etc. without results and are given tests that do not reveal anything special. C-support would like to see specialist teams formed within special clinics in which various disciplines work together and deal with the diagnosis and treatment of the patient group with the most complex profile.
VWS has now received the document. Should any developments occur based on our advice, we will keep you informed via our site.
