Saturday 24 June, the science program Focus of the NTR will focus on post-COVID. This is the first broadcast of a two-part series. The second broadcast is on Saturday 1 July.
Part 1
Petra Grijzen accompanies retired GP Alfons Olde Loohuis (medical advisor at C-support) to one of his patients who has lost her job due to post-COVID and has to go to the food bank. Petra visits an oxygen therapy session and meets lung specialist Merel Hellemons, who uses her research to map out the complaints that people with post-COVID experience.
Part 2
Petra Grijzen follows patient Mariska Hoos, participant in a brain study. Nuclear physician Nelleke Tolboom focuses on cognitive complaints in this study. She makes high-tech PET scans of the brains of post-COVID patients. Could inflammation in the brain be an explanation for the brain fog and concentration problems? She also visits exercise scientist Rob Wüst, who is investigating why post-COVID patients become sicker from exercise. He shares his results with Petra for the first time. Retired general practitioner Alfons Olde Loohuis of C-support explains how far we are from a treatment.
