Research at the Amsterdam UMC into inflammatory processes in patients with Long COVID
The Amsterdam UMC is looking for participants for their research into the possible presence of inflammatory processes (neuroinflammation) in the brain of patients with Long COVID. The Amsterdam UMC wants to investigate whether people with long-term fatigue complaints or cognitive complaints after a COVID-19 infection show changes on a brain scan, compared to people without complaints after a COVID-19 infection or people who have not had COVID-19.
Who can participate?
There are currently enough patients with Long COVID for the study. However, the researchers are still looking for people between 30 and 65 years old who do not have Long COVID. This is important to be able to compare and interpret the results. Do you know people (friends, family, acquaintances) who would like to contribute to the study? If so, we would like to hear from you.
What does the research entail?
It involves two visits to the hospital. The first visit consists of questionnaires and a blood test. This takes about an hour. During the second visit, a neuropsychological examination, MRI scan of the head, blood tests and a PET scan are performed. For the PET scan, an infusion is placed in a vein (for administering the slightly radioactive substance) and in an artery (for blood tests). This visit takes about 7 hours.
What does the research yield?
Through the study, the researchers hope to gain more clarity about the causes of persistent complaints after a COVID-19 infection. Travel expenses will be reimbursed for participants. In addition, there is compensation in the form of a VVV voucher.
