The Dutch Association for Insurance Medicine (NVVG) has drawn up a manual for assessing and managing people with post-COVID. Until now, this has been challenging for insurance physicians because it concerns a new disease for which there are no evidence-based treatments, prognoses, or assessments yet. The guidance document will be followed later by a guideline.
How do you assess the capacity for work and sustainability in the case of a medical condition that is difficult to objectify, and how do you provide meaningful reintegration advice? And how do you prevent the inevitable inter-doctor variation within this context? A guideline is urgently needed for this, but that is a complex and lengthy process. To offer practical tools for the consultation room now, this guidance document has been drawn up. A summary card has also been created from the guidance document, bringing together the most important information in a clear and concise manner.
Medical advisor Alfons Olde Loohuis of C-support contributed to the development of the guidance. He hopes that people with post-COVID will have the peace of mind to recover without having to worry about income. On the other hand, he views work as a determinant of health. He calls upon the curative and occupational health-curative sectors to collaborate intensively.
