The Dutch Healthcare Institute has found that primary multidisciplinary paramedical recovery care for adults with post-COVID does not work better against post-COVID complaints than natural recovery without treatment. This combination treatment, which has been reimbursed on a temporary basis since August 2020, can therefore not be part of the basic package.
Rules for paramedical recovery care (valid until July 1, 2024)
- You need a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
- You must request the referral within six months after your acute illness has passed. For example, have you had a fever and cough for three weeks? Then the six months start after those three weeks.
- Do you have a referral? Then you must start the recovery care within one month.
- The recovery care lasts for a maximum of six months. Sometimes you will receive additional recovery care. For this you need a referral from your GP or medical specialist.
- You are participating in a study.
The recovery care scheme will expire on 1 July 2024. It will not be possible to start new courses. Current courses will be reimbursed until 1 January 2025.
Are you not eligible for the paramedical recovery care scheme?
Then you will be reimbursed for normal care from the basic package: speech therapy, 10 hours of occupational therapy and 3 hours of advice from a dietician. Do you have additional insurance for physiotherapy, for example? Then you will be reimbursed for that from the additional insurance.
It is important to mention that this concerns 'residual complaints after covid'. It is also good to check with your health insurer whether your practitioner is contracted with this health insurer.
