The post-COVID centers of expertise have created an information sheet for healthcare professionals containing information about the process from registration to treatment within the centers and the observations made so far. The purpose of this information sheet is to inform healthcare providers about the centers of expertise, the most common complaints, and the treatments currently being used. This information sheet is being shared with professionals through various channels and can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. Patients can also take it with them to their own healthcare provider.
What do the centers of expertise do?
The post-COVID expertise centers have been open to post-COVID patients for over a year now. Their twofold mission is:
- providing high-quality care to a selected group of patients
- the accelerated acquisition of knowledge and experience about post-COVID.
What centers are there?
Adult patients will be seen at Amsterdam UMC, Erasmus MC, and MUMC+ starting November 1, 2024, and LUMC, UMCU, and UMCG opened in the summer of 2025. Children can be seen at Amsterdam UMC and UMC Utrecht starting February 1, 2025. MUMC+ recently stopped caring for children with post-COVID-19 due to low enrollment. The decision was made to concentrate care for these children at the other two centers of expertise. This will better combine knowledge, experience, and research, ensuring a high quality of care.
How can patients register?
Registration is only possible through your own GP, after which patients will be randomly selected. The GP will be notified once a patient is selected and will then refer them to one of the centers. Eligibility will then be assessed based on established criteria. Children can be registered for a spot in Amsterdam or Utrecht through their GP or pediatrician.
Number of treatment places
Nationwide, approximately 15.000 people are on the registration list. Unfortunately, not all adults can access an expert center, due to the limited number of treatment places and the temporary duration of the project. To date, over 1000 adult patients and over 200 children have been seen at the expert centers. There are still sufficient treatment places available for children, making it worthwhile to register them.
Helpdesk
The centers of expertise have set up a joint helpdesk for patients and professionals. On the website of the UMCnl You'll find answers to frequently asked questions about the post-COVID expertise centers. If you still have questions, please contact us at helpdesk@postcovidexpertisecentra.nl.
C-support hopes that as many patients as possible with post-COVID can be helped in the short term and continues to provide advice and support to patients in the areas of biomedical, psychosocial and work and income, regardless of the duration of their illness and the severity of their complaints.
