This year, 21 studies will be launched, of which 7 'Clinical studies post-COVID' in response to patient questions and 14 studies around 'Biomedical knowledge gaps post-COVID'. In order to improve the care and treatment for people with post-COVID, knowledge from biomedical and clinical research into the causes of post-COVID is necessary. These studies must all be connected to the research and expertise network PCNN | Post-COVID Network Netherlands.
At the request of ZonMw, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has made additional funding available for the post-COVID biomedical research of the current assignment of the Post-COVID program. Due to the increase in the budget, all 14 submitted research projects have been honored. The total budget to be spent for the biomedical subsidy call will be 10.4 million euros, which is an increase of 4.4 million euros (€6.000.000 + €4.419.400 = €10.419.400). The increase in the budget for the biomedical subsidy round has no consequences for the budgets of the other ongoing rounds. The budget for the clinical subsidy call is 6 million euros. In addition, 1 million euros has been made available to respond to urgent policy questions.
