What motivates researchers to delve into the complex and largely uncharted territory of post-COVID? What do they hope to achieve – for science and for the people living with the consequences of post-COVID every day?
Inside the Post-COVID Network Netherlands (PCNN) are currently being 22 investigations conducted on various aspects of post-COVID, from biological mechanisms to better diagnostics and treatment. Behind each of these studies is a team of passionate researchers. On the PCNN website section on the websites of C-support en PostCovid NL let's let them speak.
We asked the researchers not only about the purpose and content of their research, but also about their personal motivations and what challenges they see. Because research is more than just numbers and data – it is also about curiosity, social involvement and collaboration.
With these short interviews we want to show that even though a solution is not yet very close, many people are working hard behind the scenes with a clear mission: contributing to better care and support for people with post-COVID.
The contributions of the first five researchers can now be read. In the coming period we will regularly add new ones. Read their contribution here:
- Joost Wiersinga (Amsterdam UMC) about the research Reducing post-COVID symptoms by removing autoantibodies from the blood
- Rob Wüst (Free University Amsterdam) about the research From sick to sicker: A better understanding of the development of PEM (post-exertional malaise in Post-COVID)
- Leo Koenderman (UMC Utrecht) about the research The Road to Understanding PEM in Post-COVID
- Gerco den Hartog (RIVM) on the research into substances in the blood of people who have long-term complaints after COVID-19
- Sander Verfaillie (Amsterdam UMC) about the research Brain stimulation for post-COVID cognitive problems and fatigue
