The ZonMW website provides more information about the overarching knowledge agenda for post-COVID. ZonMw has been commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport to facilitate an overarching knowledge agenda for post-COVID with relevant parties, including C-support.
The reason for this assignment is the need of the ministry and field parties to bundle research that is currently taking place at (inter)national level in the field of (among other things) medical specialist and general practitioner care, in-depth epidemiological and biomedical research and clinical research aimed at diagnosis and treatment.
The aim of the overarching knowledge agenda is twofold and covers:
- A bundle of research into post-COVID that is currently taking place at (inter)national level; parties involved include the Dutch Federation of University Medical Centers (NFU), the Institute for Responsible Medicine Use (IVM) and C-Support.
- Advice on which treatments seem promising and where further research is needed, and formulating the most important knowledge gaps that need to be addressed in the form of an overarching knowledge agenda; parties involved include NFU, FMS, NHG and various patient associations (PostCovid NL and Long-Covid Nederland).
Elaboration of knowledge agenda
In order to arrive at an overarching knowledge agenda for post-COVID, knowledge and expertise of relevant field parties are of great importance. When developing the knowledge agenda, maximum effort will therefore be made to collaborate with these parties. The knowledge agenda will be built up from two topics for which ZonMw considers additional research into post-COVID to be necessary: i) biomedical research and ii) clinical and care-related research. The speed at which knowledge questions for the various topics are delivered may vary. It may also be necessary to update certain topics more frequently. For this reason, the various components will be developed separately and the knowledge agenda will be a living document that will be built up and dismantled over time. More information about the development of the knowledge agenda can be found in ZonMw's proposal for an overarching knowledge agenda post-COVID.
Note on research into persistent complaints (post-COVID)
The note “research into persistent complaints” was used as a basis for the elaboration of the assignment for an overarching knowledge agenda. This note was drawn up by ZonMw in response to the request from Minister Kuipers to ZonMw for an overview of the ongoing research into post-COVID. The aim of the note is to i) provide insight into the ongoing research at ZonMw (within the COVID-19 programme) and ii) an overview of the (inter)nationally available knowledge in the field of post-COVID.
