From 1 February 2025, children with post-COVID can also register for an expertise centre via their GP. Based on established criteria, it will be assessed whether a child is eligible for registration. The precise admission criteria are as follows:
- The complaints are the result of a corona infection.
- There have been complaints consistent with post-COVID for at least six months.
- There is a decrease in functioning.
- The post-COVID complaints must have arisen from a corona infection and not be complaints of an illness that already existed before the corona infection.
- A treatment plan (physiotherapy or occupational therapy) has already been completed, or this was not possible due to the severity of the complaints.
We are pleased that specialized clinics for children are now also being opened. A group of children experience long-term severe symptoms after a post-COVID infection, which strongly affect their quality of life, social interactions and school participation. The establishment of these centers is an important step to improve care for them and at the same time to gather more knowledge about post-COVID in children.
The treatment of children requires an approach that is tailored to their growth and development. The treatment plan is drawn up with specific attention to the child, taking into account all aspects. In addition, in consultation with various specialists, including pediatricians, within a multidisciplinary consultation, a customized treatment focused on the symptoms is added to the treatment plan.
C-support hopes that as many children as possible with post-COVID can be helped in the short term. C-support continues to offer its support to patients in the biomedical, psycho- and social areas, regardless of the duration of their illness and the severity of their complaints.
