In the Netherlands, an estimated 450.000 people suffer from post-COVID, of which 90.000 have very serious long-term complaints. More than 200 complaints have now been described and on average people have 10-15 complaints. A large proportion of patients with Post-COVID suffer from post-exertional malaise (PEM) and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). What do these terms mean? Which symptoms can be recognized? What advice do you give patients and who do you refer them to? During this webinar you will learn this and more about post-COVID, PEM and POTS and you will receive tools to better help the patient.
Patients with Post Exertional Malaise (PEM) often experience symptoms of extreme fatigue and muscle pain after even mild exertion. Strategies such as heart rate pacing help prevent overexertion by stopping activities as soon as the heart rate becomes too high. A multidisciplinary approach is essential for the treatment of PEM.
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) causes an abnormal increase in heart rate when changing body position, leading to symptoms such as dizziness and fatigue. Pacing can also help here to relieve the autonomic nervous system. These two conditions are discussed in detail in this webinar.
