800 insurance physicians and nurses retrained
On October 4 and 8, the UWV symposium 'COVID and post-infectious diseases' for insurance physicians and social medical nurses took place. C-support made a major contribution to this symposium in the form of keynote speaker Alfons Olde Loohuis, medical advisor at C-support, and an interactive workshop by members of the Expertise Team Work and Income, Diana ter Mull, Rianne Hermanns and Willem Pieters and medical advisor and expert by experience Inge de Klerk, about post-COVID, the role of C-support, the impact of complaints such as PEM and the importance of work and job retention for patients.
Some 800 doctors and nurses were introduced to the post-COVID and PAIS (post-infectious diseases) symptoms during these two days. Alfons Olde Loohuis, medical advisor at C-support, talked about the history of PAIS, the pattern of complaints, PEM, POTS, MCAS and discussed important points of attention regarding reintegration. Together with doctor and expert by experience Inge de klerk (4 Oct) and Marja Diemel (8 Oct), we also discussed the similarities and differences between post-COVID and burnout and the impact that the symptoms have on all areas of life and specifically on work.
Versatile program
Several speakers spoke during the symposium. Occupational physician Ernst Jurgens on recovery and reintegration of workers with post-COVID and the search within occupational medicine, insurance physicians Jim Faas and Nina Wijnands on disability and secondary diagnosis. Sports physician Willemien van Teeffelen gave a lecture on PEM and Anske van der Bom explained the PCNN | Post-COVID Network Netherlands. A panel discussion completed the symposium.
The attendees gained a lot of knowledge about PAIS and post-COVID in particular, and about how to better deal with these difficult to objectify conditions. It is especially important to look closely at each individual patient and ask further questions to get a complete picture. Drawing up a guideline from the UWV, which provides tools and ensures more uniformity in the assessment, is an important follow-up.
In short, very inspiring days where important steps were taken to build a bridge between curative and occupational health care. C-support is happy to act as a connector.
