During the closing conference of the ACTION research Annemieke de Groot received the post-COVID care pathway guideline from Stephanie Klein Nagelvoort, vice-chair of the UMCG Executive Board. This guideline was created through a collaboration of more than 100 healthcare providers and representatives of (patient) organizations.
This post-COVID care pathway is a guideline for the path to be taken around post-COVID. It offers patients and healthcare professionals insight into who should or can be involved in which phase and with what degree of complaints. For C-support, this guideline for a care pathway is a major step forward. Annemieke de Groot: “Many healthcare providers are still largely unaware of post-COVID care. With this guideline, we can discuss with parties how they are going to give substance to this care pathway at a regional level: which names and jersey numbers do we associate with it? And regionally, because care in regions often has slightly different emphases. Once we have that clear, we can advise patients better on their route to recovery.”
In addition, the care pathway also offers a first step towards protocolled action around post-COVID. “Post-COVID is here and it won’t just go away,” says De Groot. “You will have to include its treatment in the regular care system as much as possible. That is why we are so pleased with this guideline with which we can give the treatment of post-COVID a place in regular care.”
